Position Summary

The candidate for DevOps Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing automation and scripting tools in DomiNET’s critical AWS and Azure environments. This involves authoring scripts utilizing an agile methodology to automate functions such as scaling and provisioning in AWS, monitoring and automation of Windows and Linux servers, and deployment of cloud-specific architectural elements such as Amazon’s CloudFormation deployments using tools such as Puppet, Docker, and/or Jenkins. The candidate will work with a lead to balance the need for a highly available and highly scalable system SLA with a fast-paced development cycle to introduce new features with no downtime. To accomplish these goals, we are seeking a driven and engaged candidate with experience in scripting languages and DevOps tools and an understanding of cloud offerings both in AWS, Azure, or similar environment. The most critical skill the ideal candidate would demonstrate are a willingness to learn and a take-the-lead attitude.

Specific Responsibilities

The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for authoring scripts under the direction of the DevOps lead in our AWS and Azure environments. These scripts will impact the provisioning, monitoring, automation, and upkeep of these systems. This includes interfacing with the testing and QA teams pre-deployment, and delivering on expectations with the end users. The candidate will be expected to utilize DomiNET’s tools and processes including JIRA; be cognizant of the instantiation and automation scripts through maintenance and operations tasks, and building appropriate documentation. Specific tasks include:

  • Creating, reviewing, modifying, and updating scripts for the following types of resources:
    • Infrastructure Devices such as Elastic Load Balancers, Routers, Servers, and Firewalls
    • Operating System configurations and patching including various flavors of Windows and Linux
    • COTS Applications such as Microsoft Office, WinZip, Firefox, and other standard packages
  • Work with the DevOps Team lead to prioritize work, identify areas for improvement, and offer new solutions to automate legacy processes
    • Answer technical questions to other DomiNET staff about automation capabilities
    • Propose changes to exiting solutions to improve operations and support
  • Deliver solutions in an Agile methodology with quick turn-around times, high availability, and low defect counts
  • Assist the DomiNET Security resources to deploy FISMA and FedRAMP controls in an automated and repeatable fashion
  • Author technical documentation to capture their work
  • Utilize tools to monitor the environment for usability and functional metrics to implement measurable functional and usability improvements
General Focus

The general focus of this position is to automate the build, support, and operations of our new cloud solutions. This position will be critical to advancing the automation, provisioning, monitoring, and maintenance of IT resources and services.

Skills/Knowledge Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline; experience in the managing or designing cloud platforms, communications, and server environments; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 0 - 2 years of relevant work experience in Information Technology, specifically in cloud automation, preferably in AWS
  • Experience with scripting in Windows or transferable languages
  • Understanding of cloud architectures, networking, system administration, architectures and security elements, virtualization technologies, encryption, and servers
  • Time management skills, and the ability to prioritize and multi-task without daily direction
  • Self-motivated and able to work with a team to tackle issues as they arise and effectively influence others who are involved
  • Willing to take charge independently to offer opportunities to improve services related to the job they are performing
  • Vendor and other Technical certifications are a plus
