Position Summary

This candidate for a Cloud Architect will be responsible for outlining, roadmapping, and implementing a Cloud-First vision for DomiNET’ Enterprise Information Technology department. This includes evaluating and recommending existing and new solutions based on the 3rd Platform (Social, Mobile, Analytic, and Cloud); identifying scalable and sustainable solutions for meeting Dominet Associate’s business requirements using IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions; planning and executing migrations from legacy and on-premise solutions to off-premise environments; and developing automation strategies for replacing manual operations tasks on these systems using a DevOps approach. To accomplish this, Dominet is seeking a candidate with a proven track record of constantly seeking new technologies to improve their environment and deep technical and leadership experience capable of driving teams to solve complex problems with innovative solutions. The ideal candidate should demonstrate thorough experience with AWS, Azure, and/or other cloud service providers; some experience with Agile and DevOps-based project and team management; and an understanding of the direction of cloud services and insight into new services as they are announced. Understanding of federal information security standards such as FISMA and NIST Special Publications and a Cloud Security certification such as the CCSP is a large plus.

Specific Responsibilities

Dominet’s Cloud Architect will work with the EA to establish a technology vision for Dominet and then own the implementation of technologies and solutions to enable the business’ needs. The Cloud Architect will evaluate IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions to react and to business needs and is expected to seek out new solutions to improve existing Dominet Services. The candidate will participate in organization Sprints to evaluate solutions and enforce Cloud-First principles throughout the solution suite. Lastly the Cloud Architect is expected to champion and demand of solutions the implementation of automation for common function and automation of collection of Critical-to-Quality metrics. Specifically, daily tasks may include:

  • Develop, implement, and promote global technology implementations that focus on sustainable modular, and repeatable cloud-first architectures for internal and external IT needs
  • Analyze the existing state of IT resources and help plan out a migration to cloud-based solutions
  • Take a technical leadership role in all new systems and system upgrades
  • Find, evaluate, and support the technical implementations done by external vendors and internal teams
  • Focus on automation of operations tasks and ensuring the systems are as self-sufficient as possible
  • Take a lead role in and support a virtual innovation and usability lab to test new ideas and software
  • Provide technical expertise on the future-state of cloud-based solutions coming out of AWS and Azure to the team
  • Be considered the expert through research on cloud services and define most cost-effective solutions to meet business needs
  • Support the EA and external teams to develop and implement a 2 year disruptive technology roadmap where IT leads the way in moving out of the existing offices and into the Workplace of the Future
  • Understand and enforce cloud-specific security best practices
General Focus

The general focus of this position is to implement a cloud-first suite of solutions that is in direct alignment with the needs of the business while growing the IT Services. This includes becoming an expert not only in existing cloud services but also where the industry is moving in the next 3-6 months, establishing long-term technical standards and automation expectations for multiple IT disciplines including infrastructure, security, and application, and owning implementation of future-looking solutions. This position will be expected to thrive in an Agile and DevOps rich environment to accomplish small and large project delivery

Skills/Knowledge Required:
  • Master’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline and 3 – 5 years’ experience in the designing of cloud solutions including software, network, and infrastructure services, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 8 - 10 years of total relevant work experience in Information Technology, specifically in solution design
  • Considered a leader in cloud architectures, networking, system administration, architectures and security elements, virtualization technologies, encryption, and servers
  • Understanding of the Agile Software Development Life-Cycle and the DevOps approach to system design and delivery
  • Experience leading a team of likeminded individuals
  • Ability to identify, understand, articulate, and manage technology decisions across technical disciplines
  • Ability to converse and effectively communicate at the 50,000 ft. view to senior leadership Strong ability to converse at the detailed technical level with the architects, implementation team, and operations teams
  • Familiarity with regulatory and legal requirements (i.e., FISMA, SOX, HIPAA requirements).
  • Excellent analytical and contextualization skills, ability to see the big picture while defining the individual elements, and ability to deal with imperfect information and ambiguity and still communicate confidently
  • Excellent time management skills, and the ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Self-motivated with the ability to motivate and manage others while needing minimal supervision. Must be able to work independently to tackle issues as they arise and effectively influence others
  • Strong technical certifications are a plus
